Understanding Amazon India's multi-tiered fee structure
Selling on Amazon.in involves four distinct fee components that vary by price slab, category, and fulfillment method. Miscalculating any of these can erode your profit margin by 8% to 15% per order.
- Referral Fee: Calculated as a percentage of the total sales price paid by the buyer (including shipping and gift wrap charges). For instance, Apparel carries a 13.5% referral fee for items >₹500, but drops to 8.5% for items under ₹300.
- Closing Fee: A fixed deduction assessed per unit sold, determined entirely by the item's selling price slab (e.g. ₹5 for ≤₹250, ₹11 for ₹251–₹500, ₹25 for ₹501–₹1000, and ₹61 for items >₹1000).
- Weight Handling Fee: Logistics fee charged for delivering the item. For Easy Ship Standard: Local starts at ₹44 for the first 500g, Regional at ₹53, and National at ₹74, with incremental charges per additional 500g.
- Pick & Pack Fee: Charged exclusively on FBA shipments at ₹14 per standard unit for warehouse fulfillment operations.
- 18% GST on Marketplace Services: All Amazon fees (referral, closing, shipping, storage) attract 18% GST debited from seller proceeds.
